Annick Verbraken - Clear Yellow

When I was small I had a pretty yellow dress, I remember it clearly. I have always thought of yellow as a beautiful colour. It's my favourite colour. It's fresh and clean and strong, and it makes me happy. It should be a soft yellow. A good example is the escalator in the new Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. Inviting but not overpowering. I think that the hard and blatant yellow that you sometimes see in advertisements is distinctly ugly. It's difficult to define accurately. The yellow colour of the Dutch Railways for example isn't particularly ugly but it's not really fine either. Sometimes it feels good simply wearing something yellow but you shouldn't overdo it.
